2023Smart Manufacturing Technology Professional Development SummitJuly 27, 2023Twenty five teachers, counselors, and principles representing our local middle schools, high schools, career center, and Marion Area Workforce Acceleration Collaborative joined us for a professional development summit that ended a summer-long Teacher Manufacturing Boot Camp. Participants heard from a panel of MTC students enrolled in engineering and IT programs, as well as experienced a hands-on demonstration led by our engineering students and faculty. Additionally, attendees were given a presentation on CyberSecurity in Manufacturing by David Branscome from Microsoft. Each participant received a stipend for attending the summit which was paid using NSF grant funds. Smart Manufacturing Technology Summer CampJuly 31 – August 3MTC offered a 4-day Smart Manufacturing Technology summer camp on campus for local middle and high school students ages 12-16. Ten students attended the morning session, and another twelve students attended the afternoon. The first two days were focused on using Python and Scratch programming to control a robotic car, with the help of IT faculty and MTC student volunteers. The third day was spent in the engineering lab with engineering faculty and MTC student volunteers. Participants were able to troubleshoot a computer integrated manufacturing cell and program an industrial scale robot to build a tower of blocks having a specific shape. On the fourth day, students enjoyed the eSports Arena on campus. Emma Speyer from Senator Brown’s office visited the camp on the last day to award certificates to our participants.
