College Credit Plus
Frequently Asked Questions
Who can participate in CCP?
If you are an Ohio student in grades 7-12 you can apply for College Credit Plus admission.
The college will admit you based on your college-readiness in one or more subject
areas. Your school counselor can help you understand your options, deadlines, and
how to proceed. You may not participate in the College Credit Plus program beyond
your anticipated high school graduation date.
Students interested in participating in the College Credit Plus program must demonstrate
college readiness by placing at or above Ohio’s Remediation Free Standards in at least
one subject area. View Information on allowable tests and scores

What courses are offered at secondary schools?
Classes vary by school district. Check with your high school counselor to view course options offered at your high school.
Which courses are eligible for transfer?
Visit the Approved Transfer Course List to view the list of MTC courses that are TAG/OT36 approved. (TAG: Transfer Assurance Guide/OT36: Ohio Transfer Module).
How do I schedule my classes?
If you are interested in taking classes offered at your high school, contact your school counselor. If you are interested in taking classes offered at MTC including online classes, contact CCP Department at 740-386-4231 or email ccp@mtc.edu to schedule an advising appointment.
Where do I find the course materials and books I need?
Visit the Marion Technical College Online Bookstore (ecampus.com) to find the book/OER (Online Educational Resource)/ required course materials needed for the courses you take.
How many credits can I take?
In order to determine the number of credit hours a student can take in a year, the secondary school must calculate the number of course credits that are for high school credit only and multiply that by 3. That number is then subtracted from the 30 hours. The result is the maximum number of credit hours a student can take in the College Credit Plus program. (This is based on a semester system.)
30 – (high school only credits x 3) = Maximum number of College Credit Plus credit hours
This calculation must be completed each year for a student as the high school credits may change. Also, students may only take a maximum of 120 credit hours in the program.
If students would like to take more than the maximum number of credit hours, the student can arrange to register and pay for those additional credit hours as a “self-pay” student.
Will CCP Affect my High School Athletic Eligibility?
Student-Athletes must remain eligible in accordance with the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) bylaws, which require students to be passing five, one-credit high school courses, or the equivalent per grading period, with the high school and college courses combined. Most College Credit Plus courses taken during a semester will equal one Carnegie unit (one high school credit), allowing students the opportunity to earn more than the required five for athletic eligibility. It is the student’s responsibility to arrange a method for obtaining a progress report as needed with the college faculty in order to determine eligibility.
Important terms
Prerequisite
A prerequisite is a course, or condition that must be met before you can register
for a subsequent course. Students must meet course prerequisites before moving on
to higher-level courses. They may also need to pass a placement test as part of a
prerequisite for a course. Consult with your advisor if you have questions about prerequisites.
Prerequisites may include additional tests, above and beyond the admission requirements
for the College Credit Plus program.
Drop vs. Withdraw
Students can drop a course by the Census Date and it will appear as if they never attended, there will be no transcript entry, and no charges will be accrued. Students can Withdraw from a course later in the term. If a student Withdraws from a course, a W will be listed for that course on their transcript, it will not impact their GPA, but CCP students may be required to repay their school district.
The last day to withdraw from a class is typically around the tenth week of a sixteen-week term. Please refer to the MTC academic calendar for specific dates each term.
