Alluvial Private Wealth Invests in Local Students

Alluvial Private Wealth Invests in Local Students
February 21, 2025

A local financial planning company is investing in Marion’s future. Alluvial Private Wealth created a new scholarship for business students at Marion Technical College.

“Alluvial is dedicated to growing clients’ funds and investing in Marion’s future. We see the impact Marion Tech makes in the community and wanted to invest in students,” said Lars Olson, president and wealth advisor of Alluvial.

Alluvial and its sister company, Custom Professional Accounting, include several Marion Tech alumni who were nontraditional students.

Alumni Share How Flexibility Made a Difference

Lisa Bush, a vice president and wealth advisor with Alluvial, attended Marion Tech while working and raising two small children.

“The adult accelerated program was perfect for me,” Bush said.

Through Marion Tech’s partnership with Franklin University, Bush received discounted tuition as she earned bachelor’s degrees in business and financial planning.

“It’s a joy to be able to give back  and help others achieve,” Bush said.

Jean Obenour, founder of Custom Professional Accounting, recalls taking one class at a time as a pregnant, working parent.

“I built my world and business on Marion Tech. My kids saw the night classes were worth it. All three went on to earn their degrees,” Obenour recalled. “Marion Tech is the best thing in Marion. I’m happy to be a part of this scholarship.”

After three decades of providing accounting and tax services to Marion businesses and families, Obenour hopes the new scholarship will encourage the next generation of business leaders.

“If I can do it, they can do it, too!” Obenour said.

Alluvial Supports Business Students

The first Alluvial Private Wealth scholarship will be awarded to a business student in good academic standing with a demonstrated financial need. It can be used for tuition, books, housing or transportation.

“There are many meaningful ways that people can use a business degree, including simplifying taxes or financial planning,” Olson said. “To start a small business, you really need a business degree.”

Alluvial has a long relationship with Marion Tech, including sponsoring the Forge business classes and competition, which help start and grow local small businesses.

“Alluvial is named from a mineral-rich soil to help great things to grow. That also describes Marion Tech which helps futures to grow,” Olson said.

Scholarship Has Large Impact

“We are so appreciative of Alluvial and their partnerships with Marion Tech. This is just icing on the cake!” said Tami Galloway, president of the Marion Tech Foundation Board of Directors.

“As Marion Tech continues to set enrollment records, we have more students who need assistance,” said Dr. Ryan McCall, president of Marion Tech. “We so value this investment in our students and our community.”

This is the 52nd named scholarship funds with the Foundation. The first Alluvial scholarship will be awarded to a student for fall semester.

“Even with Marion Tech’s affordable tuition, every dollar helps our students get to graduation,” said Mike Stuckey, director of the Foundation. “Our average student is 27, so most are juggling work and family and college. Most of our students are from this area and stay here after they graduate. We value this investment to help students succeed!”
