Credit-By-Exam
Current MTC students may be eligible to earn course credit by passing a Credit-by-Exam (CBE). These exams measure knowledge gained through prior coursework, work experience, or independent study. CBEs are free for registered MTC students.
Eligibility
Always talk with your academic advisor before scheduling a CBE. Your advisor will help you determine your eligibility to take a CBE and whether it is appropriate given your level of comfort with the material, your degree, and your academic plan.
You may not take a credit-by-exam for a course that you are currently taking. Plan to test at least two weeks before the course begins. Credit-by-Exam eligibility requirements, limits, and procedures are governed by college policy.
Students should reach out to the Disability Services Office to schedule a credit-by-exam.
Please bring your photo ID to the testing center on test day.
Scheduling a Credit-by-Exam
- Talk to your advisor to determine whether a CBE is appropriate for you
- Schedule your appointment if your desired test does not require a prerequisite. Request an appointment if your desired test does require a prerequisite. Students with accommodations should email Disability Services Office at ds@mtc.edu to schedule a credit-by-exam.
- Select ‘Credit-by-Exam’ when prompted
- If your exam is longer than 2 hours, do not select the final testing slot of the day. Exams end when the Testing Center closes, even if the allotted time has not elapsed.
- You will receive an email confirmation of your appointment. Use the link provided in the email to cancel or reschedule.
- See Testing Center Policies for additional testing information.
Scores
Exams are typically graded within one week, though grading may take longer during busy periods or academic breaks. Scores are emailed to you and your academic advisor.
