IT Days Event Puts Minds and Robotic Cars Racing
Fun and learning went hand-in-hand at the first fall IT Days event. A group of IT students brought their phones and used the Robobloq app to program robotic cars.
Faculty and staff watched as the IT students raced the cars through the halls. Students were also challenged to create code that allowed cars to react to obstacles and play sounds.
Finally, the students had to find black tape sensors to allow the cars to follow a specific path.
“Students just leveled up their tech skills with the Robobloq app! They didn't just race cars with remote controls – they took it to the next level. They programmed cars to tackle obstacles like pros! They raced through challenging courses with finesse!” said Christy Culver, professor and interim program chair for business and information technologies and faculty assessment coordinator.
“It is great to see students excited about taking their classes and using it in a fun way,” said Ks Ku, IT faculty member. “The IT students started out programming simple commands and then added to them until they could check distance, use the sensors, and avoid obstacles.”
Marion Tech students, faculty, staff, and community members are invited to two upcoming IT events. The next one is Oct. 30 at 2:30 p.m. in Bryson 134 to learn more about robotics and game development.
The IT Days event on Nov. 27 at 2:30 p.m. is a competition. IT students will present their final projects for the semester. Attendees will vote for the top students to win trophies and prizes. These projects may include original games, apps, websites, and programs.
