If you need assistance or would like to use one of the department’s laptops to complete any of these steps, please contact our office.
Step 1: Apply for a PIN online
If you wish to receive any federal grants, loans, or MTC scholarships you are required to complete the FAFSA. Start by applying for a PIN at www.pin.ed.gov. If you are a dependent student, one of your parents will also need to apply for a PIN. You will need it to sign your FAFSA electronically.
Step 2: Complete your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Online
The FAFSA can be completed at www.fafsa.ed.gov using the federal school code for MTC, 010736. The deadline for completing the FAFSA is 30 days prior to the fee payment deadline. FAFSA worksheets are available online or in the Financial Aid Office to assist you in preparing the information needed to complete the application.
Step 3: Review your Student Aid Report (SAR)
You will receive a SAR confirmation from the U.S. Department of Education. You will also receive notification of eligibility or a request for additional information from the Financial Aid Office. If the College requests additional information, return it within 15 days. When all information has been received, processed and is correct, you will receive a notice of eligibility.
Step 4: Complete the MTC scholarship application
There are a wide variety of scholarships available for MTC students. The MTC scholarship application can be found here. The deadline for applying for MTC scholarships is May 1st.
Step 5: Apply for a Stafford Student Loan online (if necessary)
If you feel that you still need additional financial aid, you may apply for a Stafford Student Loan. To be eligible for a loan you must be enrolled for at least 6 credit hours and have a GPA of 2.0 or higher. If it is your first time borrowing a Stafford Loan you will also be required to complete an entrance counseling exam covering the basics of federal student loans. We must have the results of your FAFSA results and you must be enrolled before we will process your loan application. Applications are due 30 days prior to the fee payment deadline.
Step 6: Accept your financial aid online
Once you receive a notice of eligibility, you must go online here to accept your financial aid. If you do not accept your aid, it will not be applied to your account. If your aid does not cover your fee total you will need to make arrangements to pay the balance. If you have excess aid you will receive a credit at the bookstore to purchase your books. If any excess aid remains after all fees/books have been paid, a refund check will be mailed to you (See the college calendar for specific dates). All schedule changes and bookstore purchases must be made by the 2nd day of classes
Step 7: Reapply for all financial aid (grants, scholarships, loans) each year
The financial aid award year begins summer term and runs through spring term.
Marion Technical College provides equal opportunities regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, disability, age, military status, or sexual orientation. MTC reserves the right to change these scholarships as financial conditions warrant.
